The cat made no sound, but he refused to move.
As the family gathered around the coffin, surrounded by white flowers and softly glowing candles, the cat quietly climbed onto it and settled down. He rested his head against the coffin as though he were searching for the familiar warmth he had known for so long.
No one could say whether he truly understood what had happened. Perhaps he was waiting for his owner to wake up and reach out to him one more time. Maybe he simply sensed that something was terribly different. Whatever he was feeling, nobody could bring themselves to move him.

A cat doesn’t need words to show that someone is missing from its world. Sometimes, all it takes is watching them remain quietly in the very place where the loving hands that once fed, comforted, and cared for them used to be.
For that cat, leaving the coffin may have meant accepting that his beloved human was never coming back. So he stayed a little longer, holding on to the place and the familiar presence he had known all his life.
