Swimming pool attendant Vinicius Orlando was expecting a routine day of cleaning and maintenance when he arrived at a family’s home in Goiás, Brazil. Instead, he found himself facing a terrifying emergency that would turn him into a real-life hero for a little dog named Choquito.
Something felt unusual when Orlando arrived. Choquito, who normally greeted him enthusiastically, was nowhere to be found. Moments later, Orlando heard strange noises near the swimming pool. Worried that the dog might have gotten into trouble, he rushed toward the pool and noticed that the cover was wet.
He immediately pulled the cover aside and discovered Choquito lying motionless underwater. Without hesitating, Orlando jumped into the pool and lifted the unresponsive dog out of the water.
Realizing that Choquito was unconscious, Orlando began performing chest compressions in an attempt to revive him. The moments that followed were frightening, but he continued trying to save the little dog’s life. Thankfully, Choquito eventually began responding, giving Orlando hope that he might survive.
Orlando immediately contacted the family to explain what had happened. The dog’s owner, who was picking up his daughter from school, hurried home. Together, they rushed Choquito to a veterinarian for an urgent examination.
Miraculously, the little dog recovered much faster than anyone expected. Within approximately 30 minutes, Choquito had returned to his normal, playful behavior, leaving his family deeply relieved after such a frightening experience.
Later, the family reviewed their security camera footage to understand how the accident had happened. They discovered that Choquito had squeezed through a narrow opening in the pool gate. After falling into the water, he struggled to remain afloat for around 40 minutes before finally sinking beneath the surface.
Incredibly, Orlando arrived just one minute after Choquito went underwater. That timing proved crucial.
Orlando later explained that two unexpected circumstances helped make the rescue possible. His coworker had decided to visit the pool earlier than usual so they could have lunch together. Orlando had also recently completed a safety course where he learned CPR techniques, knowledge that helped him respond during the emergency.
Today, Choquito is fully recovered and happily back to his mischievous self. Orlando is grateful that he arrived at exactly the right moment and knew how to act.
His incredible response is a powerful reminder that learning emergency skills and acting quickly can save lives. For Choquito and his family, Orlando will always be remembered as the person who gave their beloved dog a second chance.
