36-Year-Old Teacher Pleads Guilty After Having a Child With a 13-Year-Old Student

Laura Caron spent more than a decade teaching fifth grade in Middle Township, New Jersey. Now 36, she has pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of a minor.

According to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the relationship allegedly lasted from 2016 through 2020 and began when the student was just 11 years old.

Caron was reportedly a family friend who arranged for the boy to stay at her home before he eventually began living with her full-time. Prosecutors say she gave birth to a daughter when the boy was 13.

The case became public in 2024 after the child’s father shared a post on Facebook claiming that Caron’s five-year-old son looked like him.

Under the plea agreement, Caron faces five years in state prison, along with the loss of her teaching license and eligibility for public employment.

Before sentencing, she will undergo an evaluation at the Avenel facility to determine whether her behavior is classified as repetitive or compulsive. The findings could affect the final sentence.

Following her release, Caron will be required to register under Megan’s Law and will face lifetime parole supervision.
