Stuck and Alone, a Kitten Found in the Trash Gets a Second Chance

When my child came running to tell me about a kitten crying from inside a trash bin, I knew I had to check. What I found was heartbreaking—a small, helpless kitten, completely stuck on a glue trap.

Its weak cries barely pierced the air, and its tiny body was immobilized by the strong adhesive. I wasn’t sure if someone had placed it there on purpose or if it had gotten stuck while searching for food, but either way, it needed help.

Freeing the kitten wasn’t easy. The glue was incredibly strong, and every attempt to peel it off risked hurting the fragile creature. Even chopsticks broke under the strain.

Carefully, I used my hands to ease it off the trap, working slowly to avoid causing pain. After a long and delicate struggle, the kitten was finally free.

Exhausted but relieved, I placed it in a cardboard box to prevent any remaining glue from getting into its eyes or fur.

Bringing it home was just the beginning. The kitten, clearly starving, devoured the food I set out, its tiny frame shaking with hunger. Despite everything, it showed remarkable trust, following me around the house as if it already knew it was safe.

The glue on its fur, however, was still a major issue. I turned to vegetable oil, rubbing it gently over the sticky patches and wiping it away with wet wipes.

The kitten, whom we named “Nian Nian” (meaning “sticky” in Chinese), sat patiently through three careful washes, as if it understood I was helping.

After its fur was finally clean, I used a hairdryer to warm it up. My wife even made a tiny sweater out of an old sock, which Nian Nian wore without protest, looking more comfortable than ever.

In just a few days, the transformation was incredible. Nian Nian became playful, affectionate, and full of life. Its once-hollow belly rounded out with proper meals, and its fur grew soft and shiny.

Two weeks later, a trip to the vet for vaccinations showed just how much it had changed—strong, healthy, and remarkably well-behaved.

Day by day, Nian Nian continued to thrive. In just 20 days, its weight nearly doubled, growing from a frail 400g to a sturdy 740g. The fragile kitten once abandoned in the trash was now a joyful, energetic part of our family.

Looking at Nian Nian now, I’m reminded of how love and kindness can turn even the direst situations into something beautiful. A tiny life, once discarded, is now cherished.

And in saving it, we found something precious too—the joy of unconditional love and the simple but profound happiness of giving a second chance.
