Stu’s life changed completely after he went from hiding in fear to eagerly waiting for his adoptive mom every day.
The dog was discovered curled up inside a kitchen cabinet, one of more than 60 dogs and puppies rescued from an alleged neglect situation in Ballinger, Texas.
The conditions were heartbreaking. The animals were living in severe overcrowding, and many were underweight, covered in untreated skin problems, wounds, and other health issues. Stu was in such poor condition that much of his body had little fur left.
Humane World for Animals worked alongside the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office to remove all of the animals from the property. Stu was finally brought somewhere safe, where he received the medical care, food, attention, and kindness he had been missing for so long.
But helping Stu recover physically was only the beginning. He also needed someone who would give him a permanent home and the sense of security he had never known.
Eventually, Stu became available for adoption through shelter partner Animatch. That was when he met Kassandra.
Kassandra didn’t want to simply pick a dog and assume they would become a perfect match. She wanted Stu to have a say, too. But when she saw him, something immediately felt different. She had a feeling he could be the one.
Then Stu made his own choice.
From the moment they met, he made it clear that Kassandra was the person he wanted to be with.
Now, Stu gets excited whenever he sees her, and Kassandra feels exactly the same way about him. Their bond developed so naturally that she says it feels as though they have known each other for years.
Stu had spent the beginning of his life without the love, safety, and comfort every dog deserves. After everything he had endured, he finally found someone he could trust.
And perhaps the most beautiful part is that this time, Stu didn’t just get chosen.
He chose his person, too.
