When two dogs, Tillie and Phoebe, went missing, volunteers spent an entire week searching for them. Just when hope seemed to be fading, a local resident contacted the rescue team with a surprising discovery that would eventually lead to a heartwarming reunion.

The resident explained that a reddish-colored dog had been visiting their property for several days. Each time, the dog would approach them briefly before heading back into a nearby ravine. Recognizing that something unusual might be happening, the resident decided to seek help.
VIPP volunteers immediately headed into the ravine, hoping to find the missing dogs. After searching for a while, they finally heard a faint bark in response to their calls for Tillie. Following the sound, they discovered her lying beside an old concrete cistern, resting her head against its wall.
However, the rescuers quickly realized that Tillie wasn’t alone. Their hearts sank when they suspected that Phoebe might be trapped inside the cistern. Looking over the edge, they discovered Phoebe perched on a pile of concrete rubble that had kept her safely above the water. Thankfully, she was still alive.
The most remarkable part of the rescue was Tillie’s unwavering loyalty. For nearly an entire week, she had stayed beside her trapped friend, refusing to leave her alone. She occasionally left for a few minutes each day to search for help before returning to Phoebe’s side. Her dedication may have been the reason Phoebe survived such a frightening ordeal.
A local resident named Joe Curiel also played an important role by recognizing Tillie’s unusual behavior and contacting rescuers. His quick thinking helped bring the dogs the assistance they desperately needed.
