Pit Bull Is Thrown Into a Swamp and Attacked by Alligators—Then a Firefighter Saves Her

A dog is incredibly lucky to be alive after being cruelly thrown from a highway overpass into an alligator-filled swamp in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded after receiving the report. When officers arrived, they discovered that the Pit Bull was still alive, stranded on a small patch of land in the swamp below.

With assistance from the St. Rose Fire Department, St. Charles Parish Animal Control, and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, rescuers managed to save the dog in about 45 minutes. Firefighter Eddie Simpson lowered himself into the swamp and personally pulled the 70-pound dog back up the ladder.

Rescuers captured the dramatic rescue on video. The dog was later named Ally.

Ally was taken for medical treatment after suffering several bites that appeared to have been caused by an alligator. Thankfully, aside from those injuries, she seemed to be in fairly good health. Authorities estimated that she was between 5 and 7 years old.

Investigators said they had not yet determined whether Ally had been thrown from the overpass by her owner or whether she had been stolen and later abandoned.

Ally was taken to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter, where she remained under care while authorities waited to see if anyone would come forward to claim her. If no owner appeared, she would become available for adoption.

Update:

No one came forward to reclaim Ally. The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter then began searching for a permanent family who could give her the loving home she deserved.

Thankfully, it did not take long. About a month later, Ally found her forever family in New Jersey and was able to spend Christmas in a safe and loving home.

“Ever wonder what happened to Ally, the pitbull thrown off of 310?” the shelter asked. “Well, she is doing great in New Jersey. Her family says she is the best dog and they couldn’t be happier with her.”
