Family Breaks Down in Tears Reuniting With Their 18-Year-Old Dog After 3 Years

Binky, lovingly known as Mr. B., had been a cherished member of his family for more than a decade before he suddenly disappeared.

His family had made sure he was microchipped, hoping that the identification would help bring him home if he was ever found. They waited by the phone for years, hoping for the call they desperately wanted.

But as more and more time passed, they eventually had to accept that they might never see Binky again.

Then, more than three years later, an unexpected phone call changed everything.

A dog shelter in Summerville, South Carolina, contacted the family with incredible news: They had found Binky.

A Good Samaritan had discovered the now 18-year-old dog wandering along a road and brought him to safety.

When Binky arrived at the shelter, however, it was obvious that he had been struggling for a long time. He was severely matted, extremely thin, had badly overgrown nails, decaying teeth and was covered in fleas. He was also dealing with several other medical problems that required immediate attention because of his advanced age.

Despite his condition, there was one important thing that would eventually change his life: Binky still had his microchip.

The shelter immediately began caring for him. His matted fur was shaved away, he received a complete medical examination and veterinarians provided the urgent treatment he needed.

During the process, staff scanned Binky for a microchip.

What they discovered was incredible.

The chip showed that Binky belonged to a family who lived about six hours away from Summerville.

When the shelter contacted them, the family explained that their beloved Mr. B. had been missing for more than three years. They had searched for him and done everything they could to bring him home, but had never received any information.

They had spent years hoping that someone would eventually find him, take him to a shelter and have him scanned.

Then, on March 19, 2023, the phone finally rang.

The family was completely stunned.

They could hardly believe that the dog they had feared they would never see again was alive and waiting for them.

Soon afterward, a shelter volunteer made the six-hour drive with Binky so he could finally return to the family who had rescued him all those years earlier.

The reunion was filled with tears and overwhelming emotion.

The shelter shared that everyone was emotional as the long and seemingly impossible journey finally came to an end. After years of uncertainty, Binky was once again surrounded by the people who loved him.

For the elderly dog, it meant finally returning to the family he had been separated from for so long.

Binky’s journey also highlighted just how important microchipping can be for lost pets.

The shelter explained that if someone had scanned Binky when he was first found in Georgia, he could potentially have been reunited with his family much sooner. Somehow, he had traveled all the way to Summerville, disappeared again and eventually ended up at the shelter where someone finally checked for his microchip.

After more than three years apart, Binky was finally home.

His story is a powerful reminder that a microchip can give a lost pet a way back to the family that never stopped loving them.
