The employees immediately understood that Xyla was in serious danger. They quickly rushed her to a veterinary hospital, where doctors worked to stabilize her. Despite her age and partial blindness, Xyla showed incredible strength and continued fighting for her life.
Authorities soon began investigating how the helpless dog had ended up inside the dumpster. Surveillance footage reportedly showed a man arriving at the location, removing a bundled trash bag from his vehicle, and throwing it into the dumpster.

Investigators used Xyla’s microchip information to learn more about her history. Her former owners had passed away, and the investigation eventually led authorities to a nearby residence. A man named Anthony Bellman was identified in connection with the incident.
According to investigators, Bellman had planned to have Xyla euthanized but instead abandoned her in the dumpster. He was arrested and faced animal cruelty charges. The case later resulted in convictions for animal cruelty offenses.
While the investigation unfolded, Xyla began receiving the medical attention and compassionate care she desperately needed. She was placed under the care of animal services, where staff focused on helping her recover physically and emotionally.

Despite everything she had experienced, Xyla slowly regained her strength. She was eventually placed with a foster family, where she began enjoying the simple things she had been denied for so long—comfort, safety, affection, and peaceful surroundings.
Her foster family quickly developed a strong bond with her and ultimately decided to give her a permanent home. Instead of spending her final years alone and afraid, Xyla now had people who were committed to protecting and loving her.
The rescue also highlighted the importance of the store employee who heard something moving inside the dumpster. His decision to investigate the unusual sound made all the difference. Without his quick response, Xyla might not have survived.

At 16 years old, Xyla deserved nothing but kindness. Thankfully, caring people gave her the second chance she needed to live the rest of her life surrounded by love.
