When four-year-old Krakka, a curious Parson Russell Terrier, disappeared during a walk near Shiptonthorpe, East Yorkshire, her family feared they might never see their beloved dog again. Krakka had always returned home safely in the past, but this time, something was terribly wrong. Her owner, Glynis Elgey, immediately knew that her adventurous little companion needed help.

For almost two days, family members, friends, and volunteers searched desperately for Krakka. They explored surrounding areas, hoping for even the smallest clue. A specialist drone team also searched the nearby farmland, but despite their efforts, the missing terrier remained nowhere to be found.
Then, just when hope was beginning to fade, a faint whimper changed everything.
While searching an overgrown area filled with nettles and rabbit holes, someone heard a tiny sound coming from beneath the ground. It was Krakka, trapped inside a rabbit warren approximately three feet underground.
The frightened dog had crawled deep into the narrow tunnel and become stuck. Thick tree roots had trapped her body, preventing her from climbing back out. When rescuers carefully widened the entrance, they discovered that only the tip of her nose and a tiny paw were visible.

Without wasting another moment, volunteer Steve Priestman, ground searcher Jennifer Zarek, and Krakka’s owners, David Hudson and Glynis Elgey, began digging by hand. Everyone worked carefully, knowing that the exhausted dog needed them to act quickly.
After 20 to 25 agonizing minutes, their efforts finally succeeded. Krakka was brought out of the underground tunnel alive, ending nearly two days of fear and uncertainty.
For Glynis, the reunion was an unforgettable moment. She was overjoyed to see her beloved dog safe again. In a touching display of affection, Krakka’s first response after being freed was to give her owner a kiss.

However, the little terrier needed medical attention. She was taken directly to a veterinarian, where she received treatment for dehydration, an eye infection, and an injured dew claw. Thankfully, she was expected to recover fully.

Incredibly, Krakka soon began showing interest in investigating another rabbit hole, proving that her adventurous personality was still very much alive.
Her rescue is a powerful reminder of what determination, teamwork, and love can accomplish. Thanks to her family and the dedicated volunteers who refused to give up, Krakka escaped a frightening ordeal and received another chance to enjoy life with the people who love her.
