A Mission of Hope: The Brave Women Saving Ukraine’s Abandoned Animals
Amid the uncertainty and hardship of war, a remarkable team of animal rescuers is bringing hope to vulnerable animals across Ukraine. While countless pets struggle to survive without food, shelter, or medical care, dedicated individuals are risking their time and safety to give these innocent creatures a second chance.
At the heart of this mission is Lala, founder of the animal rescue organization 12 Guards. Alongside fellow rescuer Krystina, veterinarians, and compassionate volunteers, she is helping animals escape dangerous situations and discover the possibility of a brighter future.
Rescuing Animals From Dangerous Situations
The ongoing conflict has disrupted countless lives, including those of animals left behind when families are forced to flee. Many dogs and other pets find themselves alone, frightened, and struggling to survive.

The 12 Guards team responds to requests for help whenever circumstances allow. Their rescue missions focus on bringing vulnerable animals to safety, arranging transportation, and ensuring they receive essential care.
Every successful rescue represents another life given an opportunity to survive.
Medical Care and Emotional Recovery
Rescuing an animal is only the beginning. Many dogs require veterinary examinations, vaccinations, treatment for injuries, nutritional support, and other essential medical services.
The team works with veterinary professionals to address these needs and prepare animals for their next chapter.
However, physical healing is not always enough. Some rescued dogs arrive terrified of people or overwhelmed by unfamiliar surroundings. Through gentle handling, patience, and consistent care, their caregivers help them gradually rebuild trust.
With time, kindness, and a safe environment, even frightened animals can begin to feel secure again.
The Search for Loving Families
Once the dogs are ready, the organization works to connect them with suitable permanent homes. Each animal’s personality, health, and individual needs are considered when finding the right family.
According to the organization, approximately 50 dogs are rescued and placed in homes every month. Each adoption not only transforms one animal’s life but also creates room to help another animal in need.
A Mission That Inspires Hope
Lala, Krystina, and the entire 12 Guards team demonstrate that compassion can shine even during the most difficult circumstances. Their efforts depend on veterinarians, foster families, volunteers, donors, and everyone willing to support vulnerable animals.

Behind every rescued dog is a story of fear, survival, and the possibility of a new beginning. These rescuers remind the world that animals deserve protection, dignity, and love, regardless of the circumstances they face.
Their mission proves that even a small act of kindness can become the beginning of a life-changing journey.
