Hannah and Shane Burcaw Respond to Questions and Rumors About Their Pregnancy

Shane and Hannah Burcaw have never been afraid to speak openly about their relationship or address the misconceptions people have about their life together. Now, the couple is sharing another special update as they prepare to become parents for the first time.

Hannah, who is able-bodied, and Shane, who lives with a severe muscle-wasting disease, announced in September that they were expecting their first child.

“We are beyond ecstatic to announce that we’re expecting our first child this coming January!” the couple shared in an Instagram announcement.

“Hannah is 20 weeks pregnant and although we’ve been thoroughly enjoying this special time in privacy so far, we’ve also missed sharing all the joy with you, and there’s so much to share.”

Since making the announcement, the couple has continued giving followers glimpses into their pregnancy journey.

Shane and Hannah Burcaw Share Pregnancy Update

In a recent video, Shane and Hannah revealed that they were just one week away from entering the third trimester.

They also addressed comments from viewers who had suggested that Hannah did not look pregnant.

Shane quickly responded to those remarks, making it clear that he could see her growing baby bump.

“I guarantee you with my own god-given eyes, she looks pregnant right now. There’s a big old belly there,” he said.

Hannah also explained why her pregnancy bump might appear smaller than some people expected.

“I’m almost 6 feet tall. So this, you know, there’s a lot of vertical room for baby. They don’t need to go out as far as if I was shorter. So that’s definitely why I have less of a bump,” she explained, according to UNILAD.

Beyond the physical changes, Shane has also been open about the emotions and concerns that come with preparing for fatherhood.

In an earlier Facebook post, he shared one of his biggest worries about becoming a parent.

“One of my biggest worries about having children is the extent to which I’ll be able to physically interact with them,” he admitted.

“It’s the Most Wild Thing in the World”

Shane understands that being a loving parent involves much more than physical abilities. However, he has acknowledged that he sometimes thinks deeply about how his disability might affect his experience of raising a child.

Despite those concerns, he has already experienced some unforgettable moments during Hannah’s pregnancy.

One particularly special experience came when he felt the baby kicking for the first time.

His reaction was filled with excitement and amazement.

“It’s the most wild thing in the world to feel it moving around in there,” he said in a recent video.

For Shane, feeling those tiny movements offered a new and emotional connection with the baby they are eagerly waiting to meet.

The couple has also been speaking with other parents in interabled relationships to learn about their experiences of raising children.

In an interview with People, Shane explained that these conversations had helped him feel more confident about the journey ahead.

“One thing that has made me feel good is that they are reminding me that so much of parenting is not the physical stuff,” he said.

“A human being, yes, needs physical care as a baby, but a lot of parenting is about the mind and emotions and learning and love.”

As Shane and Hannah get closer to welcoming their first child, they continue sharing their excitement, personal experiences, and the questions that come with entering parenthood.

Their journey also highlights an important message: parenting is built on affection, emotional connection, patience, learning, and love. Physical ability does not define how deeply someone can care for their child.
