She Once Trusted No One, But What Happened After Finding Her Sanctuary Home Is Truly Heartwarming
Sage’s life began with hardship, but her story took a beautiful turn when she finally found a place where she could feel safe. The dilute tortoiseshell cat, who once feared everyone around her, has transformed into a confident, affectionate companion who chirps, chats, and explores every corner of her sanctuary like she owns it.

As a tiny kitten, Sage was discovered beside a road, possibly after being struck by a car. She was taken to a veterinary clinic, where euthanasia was being considered. Fortunately, a compassionate rescuer stepped in and gave her a second chance at life.

The rescuer raised Sage with love and dedication. However, when difficult circumstances made continued care impossible, she made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to Milo’s Sanctuary in California, ensuring Sage would receive the specialized attention she needed.
Sage is paralyzed in her hind legs and requires diapers, special food, and supplements to remain comfortable and healthy. Despite these challenges, her greatest need was something more meaningful: patience, understanding, and the opportunity to trust again.

When Sage arrived at the sanctuary, she was frightened and uncertain about her unfamiliar surroundings. During her first few months, she gradually began experiencing small but meaningful victories.
She formed a special bond with sanctuary manager Mirissa and eventually became comfortable around several resident cats, including a black-and-white tuxedo companion. Before long, Sage discovered her favorite corners and confidently scooted around the sanctuary, exploring wherever curiosity led her.

Her paralysis has never stopped her from enjoying life. She moves independently from room to room, wearing her diaper and following her own little adventures.

One of the most remarkable changes has been Sage discovering her voice. According to Mirissa, she now communicates her feelings openly, letting people and other cats know when something displeases her.
But Sage’s chirping is not always a complaint. When someone scratches her in just the right place, she responds with cheerful little sounds, showing how much she enjoys affection.

She has also become comfortable accepting daily care and welcoming visitors. Her sweetest gesture is sharing her favorite catnip toy, gently offering it to people who come to see her.
“The Sage who first arrived isn’t the same Sage now,” Mirissa shared.
Today, Sage rests peacefully in her cozy bed, sometimes lying belly-up without fear.

Her transformation proves that patience, kindness, and love can help even the most frightened animals discover happiness and trust again.
