All canines deserve to be loved without limits and covered in kisses every single day. It’s all they need to be utterly happy.
Sadly, the innocent pups sometimes end up in the hands of cruel humans who mistreat them and fill their gentle hearts with fear.
Our following story is about Homer… a sick and frightened canine who was mistreated and let down by his heartless owners. Without the tiniest bit of compassion, they abandoned him and left him in the middle of the road when he needed their help the most.
As Homer began giving up on himself, little did he know that his life was about to change in ways he couldn’t even imagine.

As soon as Aron Hughes, a dog rescuer, spotted a sick and sad dog in the middle of a busy road near a gas station, he immediately approached him. The empty look in the canine’s eyes broke his heart. He seemed to have lost all hope of being saved.
The doggo was in really bad condition and he needed urgent help. He hardly had any fur on his body, which was covered in wounds.
With the help of dog catchers, the rescuer managed to take the pup to the vet clinic. Unfortunately, the vet diagnosed the dog with cancer. At the time, nobody knew whether the doggo was going to make it.
Hughes reassured the pup that he was no longer alone and that he would help him win this battle. The pooch started chemotherapy.
Letting Homer Know He Wasn’t Alone Anymore

Homer stayed at the clinic and Hughes visited him often, but the pup still looked sad.
Hughes was aware that Homer needed to get used to the human touch because he winced every time someone would try to get too close to him.
It was clear that the pup had been mistreated.
Hughes started working slowly with Homer. First, he sat in front of his cage, trying to gain his trust and get close to him. He cheered him on. After he saw that Homer was okay with that, he began sitting with him in the cage and talking to him.

He hoped to see Homer’s sad eyes sparkle with hope and joy one day.
A week later, Hughes stroked the doggo for the first time. The pup enjoyed feeling the caring touch of a human hand.
“And that’s all he really wanted. He wanted me to stroke him all along, and I could see his eyes change when all these little wins were happening,” Hughes said.
After seeing that Homer enjoyed his cuddles, Hughes felt hopeful that Homer’s emotional wounds would heal.
The pooch began trusting Hughes. He was glad that someone cared for him and fought for his recovery.
The canine realized that he was not alone in this world.
Homer Wags His Tail For The First Time

A couple of weeks passed and the pup began wagging his tail… something that he never did before.
“That was really a big moment for me because up until then, his tail was kind of down all the time. He didn’t really know how to enjoy life. And going each day, I think Homer really found that there was somebody who cared about him, and he was able to come out of his shell,” Hughes said.
Hughes’ love and support chased all of Homer’s fears away.

A few months later, Homer looked like a different dog. The vet gave Hughes the best news. Homer was cancer-free. The chemotherapy worked for the pup. Hughes dashed to see the pup and tell him that he was going to be okay.
Hughes rejoiced at seeing Homer’s eyes glimmering with hope and love. His wounds healed and fluffy white fur began growing and covering his body.

Hughes’ friend, Nungki, was following Homer’s story on Hughes’ Instagram account. She was moved by the doggo’s story and she offered him a foster home. She showered him with love and cuddles, and the pup felt over the moon.
Nungki fell in love with him and decided to give him a forever home.
Homer can’t stop smiling and wagging his fluffy tail. He adores his mom and he likes sitting in her lap.

“I love seeing Homer in Nungki’s arms and him looking at her with complete trust, knowing that he’s completely safe now. And he just sits like this on her lap. He loves it. I’m just so happy how far he came and the change that I saw in his eyes from day one to today,” Hughes said.
We’re overjoyed that Homer succeeded in overcoming all the obstacles that stood in his way.
The love that Hughes and Nungki gave him transformed his life completely. The pup who was once abandoned and ignored lives his best life now.
