Another Plane Crashes in Florida Just Days After Deadly Learjet Disaster

Florida has experienced another aircraft accident just days after a fatal Learjet 60 crash in Palm Beach that claimed nine lives. On Wednesday, authorities in New Smyrna Beach reported that a small aircraft carrying one person had crashed. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has since provided an update on the incident.

Florida was still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating Learjet 60 crash when another plane accident occurred in the state. This time, a small aircraft went down, leaving its only occupant, the pilot, seriously injured.

The crash happened near Turnbull Bay Road in New Smyrna Beach on Wednesday afternoon, November 4, triggering an emergency response from several agencies.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received the report at approximately 2:23 p.m. near the 3000 block of Turnbull Bay Road. When emergency responders reached the area, they discovered that a single-engine aircraft had crashed in a wooded location.

“The exact location was not immediately known, and units on the ground searched the area with no success until Air One responded and spotted the crash site from overhead,” the sheriff’s office explained in a Facebook statement.

Emergency personnel then worked to remove the pilot, who was the only person aboard the aircraft. Firefighters managed to extricate the injured individual from the wreckage and provide medical assistance at the scene.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office later arranged for its Air One helicopter to transport the pilot to a nearby hospital for additional treatment.

The injured pilot was reportedly taken to Halifax Health after being declared a trauma alert. Multiple emergency services responded, including New Smyrna Beach police and firefighters, Volusia County EMS, Volusia County Fire Rescue, and Port Orange police.

Images shared by the New Smyrna Beach Police Department showed emergency crews working around the badly damaged aircraft in the wooded area.

Authorities have not provided further details about the pilot’s condition. However, the sheriff’s office confirmed that the individual had sustained “serious injuries.”

The latest accident comes only days after the deadly Learjet crash in Palm Beach, Florida, which resulted in nine fatalities. On Tuesday, officials also provided an update on the ongoing investigation into that disaster.

During a briefing, NTSB Member Tom Chapman revealed that investigators had located three sections of the jet’s left elevators approximately 1.3 and 3.8 miles from the crash site.

The cause of the Learjet accident has not yet been determined, and investigators continue working to establish what happened.

Our thoughts are with the pilot injured in the New Smyrna Beach crash. We hope they receive the necessary medical care and make a full recovery.
