Buddy, a cat from Pennsylvania who survived a brutal attack, is now recovering and has reached an important step in his journey. After receiving treatment, he was placed in a foster home with one of the veterinarians who had helped care for him.
“Our bright-eyed boy headed to a foster home this morning to continue his journey to his best life,” the Pennsylvania SPCA shared on Facebook.
Buddy gained widespread attention after security footage from a Philadelphia neighborhood showed two dog walkers encouraging their dogs to attack him while he was sitting on a patio. The black cat suffered serious injuries but, thankfully, escaped without broken bones or internal bleeding.
Despite everything he endured, veterinarians expect Buddy to make a full recovery. He was reported to be in stable condition.
For now, Buddy is staying with the veterinarian and her husband while he continues healing. The couple may eventually adopt him permanently if his recovery continues smoothly.
Two minors, ages 12 and 17, were arrested in connection with the attack and faced charges related to animal fighting and aggravated animal cruelty.
As Buddy begins this new chapter, the Pennsylvania SPCA has also reminded people that many other animals are still waiting for foster homes and permanent families.
“Buddy’s story has gotten a lot of public attention,” PSPCA spokesperson Gillian Kocher explained, “but he’s far from the only animal in need.”
For Buddy, however, the future now looks very different. After surviving a terrifying ordeal, he finally has a safe place to heal, people who care about him, and the possibility of a loving forever home.
