When an Oklahoma shelter worker contacted Cassidy Vaughn, Programs Director at Nexus Pets, about a dog who desperately needed help, Cassidy had no idea how heartbreaking the situation would be. But when she finally met Violet, she was stunned by the condition of the frightened dog standing in front of her.

Violet was extremely weak, sick, and covered in painful infections. She also had a badly injured leg and was running out of time at the shelter. Without immediate help, her future looked incredibly uncertain.
Cassidy knew Violet deserved a chance, so Nexus Pets stepped in and took her directly to a veterinarian. Medical examinations revealed just how much the poor dog had endured. Her leg was severely damaged, while her body was covered with mange and staph infections that required extensive treatment.

Her recovery began with regular medical care and frequent baths. Cassidy bathed Violet every other day to help treat her skin infections and mange. Slowly, the sick and frightened dog began gaining strength.
Once Violet was healthy enough for surgery, veterinarians made the difficult decision to amputate her injured leg. The leg had five broken toes and was causing her significant pain. Amazingly, Violet seemed to experience almost immediate relief after the procedure. She even began walking later that same evening.
As the weeks passed, Violet’s personality started to emerge. The sad, withdrawn dog who had once seemed completely defeated became more trusting and affectionate. Her rescuers watched as she gradually came out of her shell and revealed a remarkably gentle and resilient spirit.

Month after month, Violet continued to improve. Her physical transformation was incredible, but her emotional recovery was even more meaningful. With patience, medical treatment, and plenty of love, she became a happy and confident dog.

Eventually, Violet was ready for the most important part of her journey: finding a permanent family. Fortunately, she did not have to wait long. A loving family welcomed her into their home and gave her the safe, comfortable life she had been missing.
Violet’s journey shows how dramatically a life can change when someone refuses to give up. From a critically ill shelter dog with little hope, she became a joyful survivor with a loving forever home.
