For 72 long and painful days, Angel Santiago had no idea where his beloved Dachshund, Bam Bam, was. The 14-year-old dog had been stolen from Santiago’s backyard in Chicago, leaving him devastated. Bam Bam was more than just a pet—he was Santiago’s emotional support dog and a deeply cherished companion.

The heartbreaking ordeal began when two people entered Santiago’s backyard and took Bam Bam. Santiago tried desperately to chase after them, but he fell several times and was unable to catch up. With Bam Bam gone, Santiago and his family immediately began searching for him. They put up flyers, contacted people in the community, and continued looking throughout the area.
A concerned citizen even created a fundraiser, while a reward was offered for information that could help bring Bam Bam home. Santiago never stopped searching. Every day, he hoped he would finally see his dog again.
Then, after more than two months of uncertainty, Santiago received an unexpected phone call around 9 p.m. At first, he thought the call might be a prank or scam. But it was actually the local police department calling with incredible news.
Two people had brought Bam Bam to the 16th District police station but refused to answer questions about where they had found him. Officers checked the Dachshund’s microchip and were able to contact Santiago.

Santiago immediately rushed to the station with a friend. When he saw Bam Bam, he carefully checked his ears and face to make sure it was truly his missing dog. Once he knew for certain, Santiago was overcome with emotion.
Sadly, Bam Bam was not in good condition. A veterinarian found that he was extremely thin, had badly overgrown nails, and had several dried blood spots on his face. He also seemed much quieter than before.
Santiago noticed that Bam Bam would not fall asleep unless he was right beside him. After spending 72 days apart, the two finally had each other again.

Their emotional reunion brought an end to a heartbreaking search and gave Santiago the happy ending he had been hoping for. Bam Bam was finally home, safe beside the person he trusted most.
