Recently, outdoorsman Devin Sedotal was exploring a Louisiana bayou when he noticed something unusual in the brush—a small, frightened dog sitting quietly and watching him. Sedotal took a photo and shared it on Facebook, asking if anyone had lost a hunting dog.
The photo quickly attracted attention from Mariah Chock of Villalobos Rescue Center – Life 4 Paws and Alyssa Muse with Aviary Creature Rescue. Villalobos was unable to reach the dog because of the distance and an approaching storm, but Muse was able to help.

She joined Sedotal on a boat and headed into the swamp to search for the frightened pup. They were forced to wait until the rainstorm passed, but as soon as the weather cleared, they returned to the location where Sedotal had last seen the dog.
The ground was muddy when they arrived, and at first, there was no sign of the animal. Then Sedotal spotted him curled up inside a hollow log, trying to hide.
The little dog looked up at them, seemingly sensing that help had finally arrived.
They gently wrapped the frightened pup in a blanket and carried him out of the swamp. It immediately became obvious that he had been through a great deal.
The dog had a serious wound on one of his back legs and was severely underweight. The rescuers rushed him to a veterinarian, where doctors discovered just how serious his condition really was.
X-rays revealed numerous bullet fragments lodged throughout his body. Veterinarians also found several puncture wounds, suggesting that he had been attacked at some point in his past.
Despite everything the little dog had survived, Muse shared an encouraging update, saying, “Our little survivor is thriving.”
She added that his “happy tail” had barely stopped wagging since the moment they found him.
The dog was eventually named Devin and placed under the care of Villalobos Life 4 Paws. He has already been neutered, but unfortunately, he also tested positive for heartworm and will soon begin treatment.
After surviving the swamp, severe injuries and a painful past, Devin is finally surrounded by people determined to give him the safe and loving future he deserves.
