About a month ago, Best Friends Felines received a call about a stray cat wandering around a property. The cat was heavily pregnant and desperately needed a safe place to give birth. Although the rescue was already full, the team refused to turn her away. They knew she deserved a chance to welcome her babies into the world somewhere warm and peaceful.

A compassionate volunteer opened her home to the expectant mother, named Aubergine, or Aubie for short. Around two years old, Aubie had already experienced motherhood, but her past had been heartbreaking. Rescuers discovered that she had once lived with a family before being abandoned outdoors when she became pregnant. Thankfully, her difficult days were finally behind her.

The rescue team expected Aubie to give birth in a couple of weeks, but she had other plans. Shortly after arriving at her foster home, she quietly went into labor. Her foster dad was in the same room but barely noticed because she remained so calm. When the third kitten arrived, her foster family realized what was happening and stepped in to help.

Aubie eventually gave birth to four healthy kittens. Three boys were named Pimento, Tomatillo, and Potato, while their only sister, a beautiful tortoiseshell kitten, was named Goji. The little ones looked like tiny tuxedo cats, although Goji’s distinctive markings made her stand out.

From the beginning, Aubie devoted herself completely to her babies. She watched over them carefully, making sure they stayed warm, comfortable, and well-fed. Every evening, her foster family weighed the kittens to monitor their progress, and Aubie always remained nearby, keeping a watchful eye on everyone.

The kittens loved snuggling together in a tiny bundle, often sleeping on top of one another. Goji soon revealed her spirited personality by loudly protesting whenever she was awakened for weigh-ins. Whenever her little cries filled the room, Aubie was quick to check on her.

As the kittens grew, their eyes opened, and they began exploring their surroundings with growing confidence. Potato remained the biggest, while Tomatillo and Pimento were similar in size, with Goji not far behind.

Meanwhile, Aubie started enjoying gentle affection and short breaks from motherhood. For the first time in a long while, she could relax knowing she and her babies were safe.

Soon, the kittens will begin eating solid food and learning to use the litter box. Once they are ready,

Aubie will retire from motherhood and find a loving forever home where she can finally receive all the care and attention she deserves.
