The fatal accident occurred during an evening service on Saturday, October 17. Father Patricio, 53, was speaking to his congregation from the altar when the large crucifix suddenly fell, striking him on the back of his head.

According to reports, Father Patricio had been speaking about death shortly before the accident. His words took on a particularly heartbreaking significance following the tragedy.
“One day, all of us here will also die, and sometimes the time we’ve spent on things doesn’t have as much meaning as the time we spend with God,” he reportedly told the congregation.
