These Chubby Newborn Kittens Keep Rolling Out of Bed, but Their Mama Has the Sweetest Secret!
Two newborn kittens have become so adorably round from drinking their mother’s milk that they sometimes roll right out of bed. Their mama, Cassava, isn’t worried because she knows her devoted human carers are always ready to help.

Cassava and her babies arrived at Best Friends Felines, a volunteer-run cat rescue in south-east Queensland, Australia, after a veterinary-nurse carer requested assistance. The family was placed with Jen, an experienced foster carer specializing in mother cats and newborn kittens.

Sadly, the little family had already experienced heartbreak. One of the newborn kittens had passed away because of a severe cleft palate. Cassava and her two surviving babies were gently transported to their welcoming foster home.

From the beginning, Cassava proved to be a devoted mother. The fluffy calico quickly settled into her new surroundings, showering her precious kittens with affection and endless patience.
One baby is a tiny tortoiseshell resembling her mother, while the other is an adorable ginger-and-white kitten. Since the carers couldn’t determine the ginger kitten’s gender, they chose food-inspired names suitable for either sex. The family became Cassava, Tapioca, and Sago.

With only two kittens sharing their mother’s milk, Tapioca and Sago have been growing beautifully. By two weeks old, both weighed approximately 350 grams, becoming delightfully round and healthy.

Their growing bellies have created some hilarious moments. Occasionally, one of the little ones rolls straight out of bed.

“Of course, mumma closes her eyes and pretends it hasn’t happened and awaits her well-trained people to pick them up and put them back into bed,” Jen shared.
As the kittens become more independent, Cassava has started enjoying occasional breaks. She visits Jen for extra food, gentle chin scratches, and peaceful moments away from her energetic babies.

At three and a half weeks old, Tapioca and Sago were approaching 500 grams. They began sitting upright, exploring their surroundings, hopping in and out of bed, and playing together.
Cassava now spends longer periods resting while maintaining her energy for nursing. However, she remains protective around other cats, so introductions will happen when she feels comfortable.
“It is hard to believe that the babies are already 3.5 weeks old, but then you watch their cheeky little faces as they stand up and toddle around,” Jen shared.

Cassava arrived with two fragile babies and an uncertain future. Today, she is raising two healthy, playful kittens while trusting her wonderful carers to handle their occasional tumbles.
With Tapioca and Sago growing stronger every day, this adorable family has many beautiful milestones ahead.
