After being reunited with his beloved dog, the 73-year-old man heals fast.

Animals are not just pets, but also close companions.

In Corbin, Kentucky, James Wathen, 73, is a terminally sick man at Baptist Health Corbin. Wathen’s health deteriorated as his body became ill and his intellect deteriorated. When the nurses discovered that Wathen was thinking about his one-eyed Chihuahua called Bubba, they tried hard to reunite the two.

“When Bubba was brought to James, he felt grief, and Bubba then started cuddling with James.” Knox Whitley Animal Shelter director Deanna Myers posted on Facebook. “It also makes you realize that animals are more than just pets; they are close friends.”

After Wathen was hospitalized, nurses traced Bubba down to the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter and learned that the dog had been nurtured with a foster home. Since being abandoned by its owner, Bubba dog has shown similar displays of anguish and despair.

Wathen and Bubba were reunited on October 11 thanks to the nurses, and as Wathen caressed and played with his dog, he felt much more delighted and missed.

Wathen feels more at ease after stroking and playing with her dog.

Wathen appeared to have recovered completely throughout his stay. The nurses reported the following day that the patient looked to have experienced a fundamental change, being able to eat and sit up for the first time.

Because of Bubba’s favorable impacts on Wathen, Baptist Health Corbin is doing all possible to guarantee that Wathen sees his favorite pet on a regular basis.
