A brave pet dog died after confronting a deadly snake in an attempt to save its owner’s young kid from a fatal bite.
Security cameras installed outside the residence in Kidapawan City, Philippines, show two black and white dogs attacking the snake.
Moxie, the two-year-old white dachshund, first saw the lizard slithering into the front yard via the gate and immediately began barking at it.
Miley, the black dachshund, then approached and snatched the monacled snake in its jaws.
The video shows the two brave dogs fighting the snake in turns, with one biting its tail and the other mauling its head.
The cobra was eventually killed after a two-minute struggle, but it left Miley with significant bites.
The four-year-old dachshund died from her injuries shortly after the event, while Moxie was blinded by the cobra’s venom.
The event occurred last Friday when Skye, the dachshund owner’s one-year-old daughter, was sleeping in the home.
Skye’s father, Jaime Selim, said he and his wife, Pauie, discovered the event when they returned home.
“My wife and I were away for work,” Jaime said. When we arrived, our helper told us of what had happened and reviewed the cameras.
“We were amazed, but also very proud of the dogs.” I can’t express how grateful I am to my dogs for protecting my baby Skye. We’ll miss them terribly.”
They rushed to a nearby veterinary clinic to treat Moxie. She amazingly lived, but the injuries caused her to lose her sight.
