Without a doubt, many of us have forged friendships while on vacation. Socializing with strangers abroad has an oddly mystical quality because it frequently produces relationships that last a lifetime. What if I told you, though, that this isn’t just true for people? Recently, a dog named Stanley visited the neighborhood seal sanctuary in Cornwall with his owner, where he made friends with a seal pup named Aayla. After that, they posed. Everyone uttered “Aww!”
Melanie Talbot and Stanley, a dachshund (also known as a sausage dog or wiener dog), were on vacation in Cornwall, England. During their time away from home, they made the decision to visit the Sea Life Trust Cornish Seal Sanctuary, with whom Bored Panda got in touch to conduct an interview. As soon as Stanley entered the underwater viewing areas, he was almost immediately drawn to a large seal pup named Aayla, a permanent resident of the seal sanctuary. The moment Aayla and his new friend’s gazes met through the glass wall of the tank, they both felt joy.
According to reports, Aayla, a 2-year-old dachshund, dived into the window and kept swimming around out of curiosity. During their nearly 20-minute conversation and photo opp, the two were together. And was it ever cute! Aayla is frequently spotted by underwater viewers, according to Georgina Shannon of the Sea Life Trust Cornish Seal Sanctuary, and she just enjoys interacting with people and dogs. This isn’t the first time Aayla has made friends with a dog, though she seemed to particularly enjoy Stanley. We frequently receive pictures from visitors showing Aayla interacting with their dogs.

It is thought that the fact that the dachshund’s ears were tucked into a snoot because of the cold led Aayla to mistake Stanley for another seal. She started acting like dogs by doing things like waving at them and cocking her head to one side. In Georgina Shannon’s words, “You can see from the photos she was really interested in him and spent a long time looking at him through the glass.”
Talbot, the dachshund’s owner, remarked, “It seemed like we were pals at first sight.” The way they were booping their noses at the glass gave the impression that they were whispering to one another. They then posed for the camera, Aayla looking more like a dog than a seal due to her head tilt. According to the owner, dachshunds frequently sleep with their legs tucked up, giving them the appearance of seals. And when you think about it, why wouldn’t these two be friends at first sight? After all, they are both puppies!
In Gweek, Cornwall, a non-profit organization called the Sea Life Trust Cornish Seal Sanctuary rescues and cares for sick, injured, and distressed seals as well as other marine animals. If it is not possible to release the animals once they are healthy once more, they are given a permanent home at the sanctuary. Aayla is just one of the many animals that have been saved and given new homes here.
