Puppies need comfort, a consistent diet, and a suitable environment, just like human children do. This poor child was abandoned on the streets and had no one to take care of him. He was isolated and utterly shut down. Once the puppy was safely under their care, they went to the hospital. Even though he was still too weak to move, he declined to eat. He urgently required intravenous therapy before the veterinarian could decide whether he needed a complete workup.
It was time to check him for parasites and other issues now that some fluids were on board. The puppy was severely underweight, which caused anemia. He was so frail because of this.
One of the rescuers stayed with the puppy the entire time. He was still too frail to stay up, so she gave him syringe feedings every hour. He wasn’t a big fan when he first tried it, but after some gentle petting and encouraging words, he started to eat. The tiny dog needed all the calories he could get!
The courageous little puppy is still in the hospital, but he’s improving remarkably. Additionally, he is eating all by himself! Every little success is greatly appreciated by us.
