Mahi Mahi and Mackerel, two adorable gray tabby kittens, faced an uncertain future when a local animal shelter became overcrowded. With more animals arriving than the facility could comfortably accommodate, the shelter reached out for help, hoping to find the siblings a safe and loving place to stay.

Fortunately, the call reached the Orphan Kitten Project, a rescue organization run by veterinary students at the University of California, Davis. The organization relies entirely on foster homes to provide rescued kittens with care, comfort, and a chance to find loving forever families.
The two siblings soon moved into a welcoming foster home, where their charming personalities began to shine. From the beginning, Mahi Mahi and Mackerel proved to be gentle, relaxed, and wonderfully easygoing companions.

Unlike many energetic kittens, these little friends are happy entertaining themselves for hours. With a scratching post, a few toys, and each other’s company, they have everything they need to enjoy their day. Their special bond is at the heart of their happiness, making it clear that they belong together.

Although they love relaxing, these kittens certainly know how to have fun. A bouncing spring or a playful wand toy is enough to turn them into enthusiastic little hunters. They chase, pounce, and race across the floor before eventually settling down for cuddles with their foster family.

Their sweet temperaments make them wonderful companions, too. They play gently, rarely scratch or bite, and get along beautifully with other cats. They have also shown that they can handle energetic children and lively dogs, making them suitable for many different types of households.
Even unexpected noises, including the vacuum cleaner, barely interrupt their peaceful routines. They quickly return to exploring, playing, or finding a comfortable place to rest.

Perhaps their most heartwarming habit happens during quiet evenings. When their foster family sits down to watch television, Mahi Mahi and Mackerel climb onto the back of the couch and curl up beside each other. They happily accompany their humans through true-crime documentaries, turning ordinary evenings into cozy moments of companionship.
After escaping the uncertainty of an overcrowded shelter, these precious kittens now have the opportunity to find a permanent home. Because their connection is so special, they will be adopted together.

Mahi Mahi and Mackerel are waiting for a family ready to welcome two loving companions. Their story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the happiest future begins with a helping hand and a home filled with love.
