Many people might debate the pros and cons of social media, but the reality is that it is a very powerful instrument that, when utilized correctly and for the right reasons, can achieve amazing things.
It only took two hours and six minutes for an incredible network of animal lovers to rescue the lives of two canine buddies.
The true stars here, though, are Kala and Keira… Two lovely shelter canines clung to one other, pleading for life.
Their urgent cry for aid touched many people across the globe, and they were gratefully granted a second shot at life.
The Hug’s Power
Kala, a brown hound mix, and Keira, a boxer mix, were on their way to be euthanized when something extraordinary occurred.
Malena Evans of the Etowah County Humane Center photographed two closest buddies embracing. Kala had her two front legs wrapped over her closest pal, pleading for aid.
They still had a lot of life in them, but like many dogs in overcrowded shelters, they were scheduled to be put down unless the shelter found them an adopter right away.
A few hours before their euthanasia, Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in Atlanta, Georgia, posted a photo of them cuddling on their Facebook page, pleading for immediate assistance.
“My name is Kala,” the picture said. My name is Keira. We’re terrified in here. Keira is black and not a’real boxer,’ but rather a hybrid. She’s very fearless, and she assures me that everything will be OK no matter what. She urges me to be courageous, but I’m not sure I can.”
“Can you see our expressions?” Keira anticipates what will occur. It’s clear in her eyes. She’s putting on a brave front, but I can feel her heart racing as I clutch to her. Someone will take her away from me if no one protects us.”
“She won’t come back, and I’ll cry,” the sorrowful message concluded. They’ll come after me next, and I won’t be as bold as they are. While we were here, we consoled each other. She gave me hope when I didn’t have any. It’s all over now. Unless…”
The picture of these two cute puppies cuddling one other was shared thousands of times in only a few minutes.
There was no time to waste, according to the rescue. The situation was as critical as it could be.
Surprisingly, the two closest friends were already on their way to their foster home two hours and six minutes after the initial post.
The passionate embrace and the image brought people together and made a difference…
It is both lovely and astonishing to realize that anything is achievable with a little bit of love.

They still needed to locate someone to adopt them, which proved tough since it is difficult to adopt two dogs at the same time.
“Keira would do well being adopted alone, but Kala would definitely miss her,” said Anne Clarke of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, “so we are trying to adopt them together.”

The cherry on top came when two loving Georgia women applied to adopt these precious kids.
It had taken a while, but Kala and Keira were on their way to their forever home.
